Study Area, General Theme and Topics
The study area for the second edition of the IP in Milan remained the Northern part of the metropolitan area. The focus was again on two specific redevelopment programmes – the first in the area of Bicocca, a previous industrial area that was redeveloped following a ‘knowledge-based society strategy, including the location of the new University ‘Milano-Bicocca’; the second – Parco Nord – in a green area on the Northern border of the city, successfully managed by a consortium of municipalities – plus a third one in the same area, i.e. the redevelopment of the Manifattura Tabacchi industrial site. Five topics were selected: a) Manufattura Tabacchi: the planning of a cultural district; b) The governance of Parco Nord; c) Parco Nord: an environmental resource and a public space; d) Bicocca: social and physical integration of the project; e) Bicocca: a new economic centrality.
