Study Area, General Theme and Topics

The study area of IP was the Metropolitan are of Lille, in the context of the North-Pas de Calais region. The theme was ‘Lille-Roubaix-Tourcoing: a metropolitan region in the central periphery of the European Community’ and the focus was on the restructuring of Lille as a service and transportation node in the context of its broader region. Four topics were selected:

  1. Economic restructuring and social geography;
  2. Lille as a service metropolis;
  3. Transportation and spatial planning;
  4. Regional policy for technological innovation.
