In 2017, the EMSDP went through major transformations regarding its epistemological underpinnings and geographical foci, by opening up collaboration with scholars from the Global South and through the exploration of global questions of development and planning.

The program is now called IMSDP (International Module in Spatial Development Planning) and is being supported by the  Flemish Interuniversity Development Aid Programme (VLIR-UOS).  See http://www.vliruos.be/
